Fish Stock Delineation in Lake Superior and Lake Baikal
Lake Trout Morphotype Seperation Using the Truss Method Graph

Studies are underway to delineate stocks of lake herring and lake trout in Lake Superior and omul (similar to our lake herring) in Lake Baikal using a variety of multivariate methods. To meet our objectives we have developed a team of scientists from GLSC, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and the Buryat Institute of Biology, Ulan-Ude, Russia. The techniques we are using to delineate stocks include protein electrophoresis, trace elements in otolith, whole-body morphometrics, and intestinal parasites profiles. Results will be useful in developing stock-specific harvest strategies for these ecological and economically important fishes.
